The New Metro

2055 Union Street, San Francisco

This renovation of the Metro Theater is a prime example of adaptive re-use for one of San Francisco’s historic 1,200 seat single-screen theater. The iconic facade and cavernous aging structure is located in the heart of a bustling Cow Hollow shopping district and neighborhood. In addition to being a highly complex, fast-paced project, the site location required a sophisticated, thoughtful approach. Scope of phase I demolition included abatement, hard and soft demo, shoring, micro piles. The core/shell phase included restoration of period molding and murals, pouring a structural concrete overlay on the existing concrete and steel roof. Fisher delivered 250 truckloads of structural concrete to add three new floors within the building envelope.
