Fisher Development remodels Town School for Boys

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (September 23, 2009)—One of San Francisco’s leading independent day schools completed a remodel of its facility in time for students returning to classes this Fall, according to Fisher Development.

Town School for Boys now enjoys a newly remodeled library & reading room and business office. The scope involved working on every floor and the roof. New walls, electrical, data, doors, millwork, carpet, paint, plumbing and HVAC were installed. Also included in the interior scope was minor repair work in the kitchen and dining room.

The rooftop playground got a facelift as well. FDI replaced the perimeter fencing and installed a new play surface. Waterproofing portions of the roof and painting also took place.

“This was an ideal project where we parlayed our experience as fast-track retail specialists into a quick remodel for Town School,“ said Alex Fisher of Fisher Development. “We routinely compress schedules to help our clients meet their immovable deadlines, which in this case was the first day of school.“

“FDI was looking out for our best interests every step of the way,“ said Nancy Doty, Director of Finance and Operations at Town School. “They were not only organized and methodical in their approach to managing the project, they also presented us with ideas that saved us time and money.“

FDI BREAKS GROUND ON ENERGY NEUTRAL CLASSROOM

Smart Building System hailed as First-of-its-kind in New England

HARTFORD, CONN. (May 27, 2009)—In its quest to achieve energy neutrality, Fisher Development, Inc., a national general contractor, broke ground today on what promises to be the most energy efficient modular classroom building in New England, setting a new standard for healthy, sustainable learning environments.

The Watkinson School, a grade 6-PG independent institution located here, will house its new Center for Science & Global Citizenship in the 5,000 square foot glass and steel structure complete with living roof and eco-friendly mechanical systems. The footprint includes three interlocking classrooms connecting various disciplines of study and optimal space for collaboration. Other features include a “thinktank zone,” a dedicated space for exhibits and demonstrations and a state-of-the-art laboratory.

Construction of the new facility begins in June, and will be complete when school commences in fall 2009. Not only was the cost and modern design attractive to the Watkinson School community, but the unique way in which the building is assembled dramatically decreases the construction schedule—in this case less than three months from start to finish.

The Center’s award-winning design is the brainchild of Project Frog, a San Francisco-based company specializing in smart building systems. It will feature numerous LEED equivalent components including highly efficient mechanical and ventilation systems, solar glazing, lighting controls and ground source heat pumps. The building will also use human behavior awareness tools such as software monitors.

“Watkinson School is on the ground floor of a new phenomenon that could transform the design and construction industry,” said Denise Sharp, President of Fisher Development. “This building takes the most desirable elements of green building and puts them into an attractive, affordable and quick to deploy application.”

“As a national general contractor with expertise in coordinating and building these projects, FDI is poised to help schools and businesses get up and running in a fraction of the time at an affordable price,” Sharp continued.

“It was a thrill to build a store for one of the most fabled Italian design families,” said Hannah Boykin, Project Manager for Fisher Development. “It took intensive coordination among the architects, Italian millwork fabricator and installers to make this store opening the great success that it was.”

TEAM FDI TO RACE AROUND LAKE TAHOE
44th Annual DeCelle Memorial Lake Tahoe Relay

Fisher Development, Inc. (FDI) announced today that its most intrepid athletes will join 700 other runners to race their hearts out at 6,200 feet above sea level in the Lake Tahoe Relay.

"Running can be an individual sport but this relay is a real team effort," said Dave Van Wicklin, a director at FDI who, in his spare time, runs ultra distance races. "This will be a fantastic day to run around one of the world's most picturesque lakes, bond as a team and kick some serious butt!"

Each of the seven legs in the 72-mile race is between eight and 12 miles in length. Those not satisfied with just running their leg will cheer their teammates on while riding their bikes.

We hope to make this an annual event for the FDI racers!

In October of 2007, FDI sponsored the 24th Annual Leap Sandcastle Classic at Ocean Beach in San Francisco. We teamed up with a local architecture firm and the fifth grade class from Sunset Elementary School. Our team sculpted a giant sandcastle based on this year’s theme: Nature Rocks!

Leap is a non-profit organization that raises money to help fund art programs in Bay Area public schools.

FDI sponsored Share our Strength’s Taste of the Nation, a premier benefit held in June at Acme Chop House in San Francisco. The dinner and live auction honored Chuck Williams, founder of Williams Sonoma, Inc., for his pioneering work in the culinary arts. “Share our Strength’s mission to eradicate childhood hunger is ambitious and profoundly necessary,” said Ken Pickart, FDI’s Chief Executive Officer. “We’re proud of our affiliation with this fine organization and salute Chuck Williams for his significant contributions to the nation’s culinary landscape.”

FDI is a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), a national non-profit composed of leaders from every sector of the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.  FDI currently is currently working on projects seeking to achieve LEED certification, which means that a project must meet the stringent building standards set forth by the USGBC. FDI has several LEED accredited professionals on staff, and that number is steadily growing.
