JOB DESCRIPTION:
General Superintendent

ACCOUNTABILITY:

This position reports to a Regional Vice President and provides general supervision to superintendents in the field while overseeing high quality and timely project completion on a number of projects simultaneously.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Recruit and make new hire recommendations for field superintendents as required
  • Assess field superintendent’s performance to identify specific strengths, weakness, special qualifications or training
  • Work with the Senior Director of Field Operations and Regional Vice Presidents on the assignment of field superintendents to projects based on the above assessment
  • Continuous superintendent development through formal training and best practice conferences
  • Monitor job site construction through project site visits, regular phone communication and weekly document review
  • Intervene in resolving construction problems in a timely manner through creative and innovative solutions
  • Verify subcontract compliance, plans and specifications
  • Initiate and maintain liaison with FDI Account Representative
  • Maintain professional and consistent communication with Account Representative and the Regional Vice Presidents to ensure consistency from site to site
  • Verify in conjunction with Superintendents that vendor purchase orders are on site and procured material is properly accounted for and inventoried
  • Coordinate with Project Managers and various corporate departments as required ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget
  • Ensure that weekly safety meetings and daily safety checks are conducted on all job sites and safety manual is maintained and on site
  • Provide feedback to the Senior Director of Superintendents on Superintendent performance

MINIMUM DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of construction experience with at least 3 years in a management position
  • Must have a thorough understanding of construction industry practices, processes and standards
  • Must possess superior communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret all necessary construction plans, blueprints and documents
  • Requires the ability to write thorough, complete and timely reports and business correspondence
  • Must have the ability to perform basic math calculations including algebra and geometry
  • Must have a working knowledge of MS Office applications (Excel and Word) and possess basic computer skills
  • This position requires regular visits to job sites under construction and the ability to walk, climb and move about sites to investigate and ensure that proper construction practices have been employed
